Executive Summary
The historic Grand Theater was originally opened in 1938 as the first theater in Fort Worth built expressly for African Americans. According to Historic Fort Worth, the auditorium could accommodate 526 patrons downstairs and 274 in the balcony. It originally had five storefronts that included a recreation club, a barber shop, a restaurant, a shoe shop and a package store. All of the storefronts have been filled in. The building was occupied most recently by a church. Because of the modifications to the exterior, the building is not listed on the National Register but it could be considered if the storefronts were restored.
