Huddle House a été fondée en 1964 par John Sparks. Ayant déjà ouvert quelques restaurants sous différents noms, il avait besoin d'un grand nom pour sa chaîne de restaurants. Un soir à Decatur, en Géorgie, il a vu un garçon rencontrer des amis après un entraînement de football tenant son casque dans une main et un ballon de football dans l'autre. On aurait dit que le groupe était « blottis » en parlant et en riant ensemble. C'est à ce moment-là qu'il décida que Huddle House était le nom parfait pour la chaîne de restaurants et que ce serait l'endroit où les gens se rassembleraient, ou « se blottissaient », pour une bonne nourriture et de bons moments après les matchs de football du vendredi soir. Ainsi, avec son nouveau nom, est né.
