ABOUT SPRINGFIELD/BURKE

An expansive city in Fairfax County, Springfield sits just south of Annandale and Alexandria. Springfield's public transit connectivity facilitates easy commutes in both directions. In addition to Springfield's proximity to Interstate 95 (running north to south) and Interstate 495 ("the Beltway"), the Blue Line terminates at Franconia-Springfield station, which is just south of Springfield Town Center, a popular destination for residents. Springfield also has five Virginia Railway Express commuter rail stations.

The federal government has a large presence. Agencies based in the area include the Department of State, the General Services Administration, and The Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which relocated to Springfield in early 2021. As usual in Northern Virginia, government contractors are concentrated here as well. Major employers include Booz Allen Hamilton, General Dynamics, Leidos, and Lockheed Martin, among many others.

Office tenants are drawn to this area because of its cluster of highly educated workers. Half of the adults here have a bachelor’s degree or higher. In addition, Springfield is close to a range of unique recreational opportunities, from George Washington’s home in Mt. Vernon, the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, and St. James, which offers everything from baseball to swimming in a sprawling facility measuring nearly half a million square feet.
