A native of western North Carolina, Carl Ricker went to work early – both figuratively and literally. At the age of 16, Carl was at work by 6 a.m. every day of the week at a local service station, where he pumped gas and kept the books. Carl worked his way up the ranks, and turned around several failing stations before ultimately overseeing the company operations in the state of Florida.
Carl went on to grow a large recreational vehicle sales business, and then his interest turned to real estate. In 1981, he purchased land in his native Asheville for the purpose of building and leasing back commercial properties. He then began investing in land and developing restaurant chains, commercial properties, and shopping centers across the southeast. These accomplishments resulted in Carl being awarded the Horatio Alger award, as well as numerous other industry recognitions.
Today Carl is one of the largest private real estate investors in the southeastern United States, and manages his properties through Asheville’s Azalea Management & Leasing.
