Bio
Christopher Thomson serves as managing principal of Multifamily Acquisition Advisors, LLC (MAA) www.multiacquisition.com.
MAA is a premier real estate organization specializing in the U.S. multifamily sector. MAA offers acquisition consulting and asset management services and, through multiple joint ventures, acquires and operates multifamily assets. Among other value-add strategies, MAA deploys and manages capital using a methodology of identifying and adding value that traces its origins to founder Christopher Thomson’s 1999 MIT master's thesis, which focused on lowering risk by more accurately determining the precise incremental risk and revenue associated with the addition or upgrade of various property attributes.
Prior to forming MAA, Christopher was a founding team member, partner, head of acquisitions, and head of multifamily investments for private equity firm Eighteen Capital Group (ECG) and its predecessor entities, sourcing and overseeing the acquisition of twenty-nine significant multifamily properties during his tenure. These twenty-nine properties were consolidated into twenty-four individual communities. Thomson remains an active partner in nineteen assets totaling 3,617 units.
Since MAA was formed in 2018, the firm and its investors have completed an additional $365 million in multifamily transactions, with all acquisitions operated and/or asset managed by MAA. Including previous partnerships, Chris and partners have purchased forty-six substantial multifamily assets in 23 U.S. markets totaling 8,460 units with financial partners that include pension funds, life companies, and some of America’s most prominent family offices.
