Daniel E. Smith, SIOR has spent over 35 years, in the commercial, industrial and investment real estate businesses. Mr. Smith along with Mr. Fred N. Coulson, III are co-owners of Big Industrial, L.L.C. which, along with its related companies, owns and operates over five million square feet of industrial real estate throughout the United States. Mr. Smith is president of Smith Danielson Group, Inc. (“SDG”), an economic development consulting firm he co-founded in 1992 that focuses on pursuing overlooked and under utilized state economic development incentives and benefits for corporate clients. Mr. Smith was also a principal of Escorpio Asesores Corporativos of Mexico City, an industrial/commercial real estate firm offering services throughout Mexico as well as Central and South America for the past 25 years, which also assists U. S. corporations and brokers with real estate transactions in Mexico. He maintains current relationships with B.D.I.. Mr. Smith is also president of Daniel E. Smith Realty, a company he founded in 1992 that focuses on creative and opportunistic real estate transactions of large urban and ex-urban complexes, as well as large single tenant office users and commercial investment real estate. Prior to co-founding SDG, Mr. Smith headed the National Industrial Council within New America International, Inc. (“NAI”) and remains a significant stockholder. For 10 years prior to joining NAI, Mr. Smith was president of the Midwest office of Hart Corporation (“Hart”), a national real estate company based in Philadelphia, PA. Hart was one of the first truly national real estate companies, maintaining computerized databases of both users and available factory and warehouse space. While at Hart, Mr. Smith was responsible for 15 states and completed over 50 million square feet of industrial brokerage transactions throughout the U. S. Previously, Mr. Smith also spent two years negotiating real estate opportunities for Ben Franklin Stores, Inc., Division of City Products – Household International. In 1972, Mr. Smith entered executive training with Russell Stover Candies, Inc. in Kansas City, MO, where he traveled nationally locating sites and negotiating various corporate real estate needs of that company. Mr. Smith has a BA in Economics and MBA from Kansas State University at Emporia. Mr. Smith is a licensed real estate broker in Kansas and is an active industrial member of the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors. For the past 25 years, Mr. Smith has been active in such national real estate groups as CoreNet-Global Real Estate Network (formerly IDRC) and numerous state development organizations, plus the 19-state regional Southern Economic Development Council.
