Biography:
David Shaby III is a Vice President within NAI Capital's Investment Services Group. David advises institutional owners, developers, and investors on retail investment sales and leasing throughout Southern California, with experience across high-profile retail and mixed-use assets. He is passionate about helping investors position retail assets for success through thoughtful merchandising, leasing strategy, and well-structured transactions that enhance long-term asset performance.
David earned a Master of Real Estate Development (MRED) from USC and a Bachelor of Science from NYU's Schack Institute of Real Estate.
David’s hobbies include ice hockey, golf, skiing, and aviation, where he is an FAA-certified private pilot with a type rating to fly Cirrus aircraft. While at NYU, David was a four-year athlete on the Men's Ice Hockey Team and earned Academic All-American honors. During his time with the program, the team won two ACHA Division II National Championships — the first national titles in program history. In 2017, he received the Presidential Service Award for his community service work through NYU Ice Hockey.
David lives in Venice, CA with his wife, Frances, and their son, David IV.

In December 2025, David represented the buyer in the $108,250,000 acquisition of Village Del Amo, a high-performing coastal grocery-anchored shopping center in Torrance, CA. The transaction earned Best Retail Sale from the Los Angeles Business Journal and NAI Capital's Largest Deal of the Year award. Following the acquisition, David continues to oversee leasing for the project.
David's background includes work on major retail developments, including the $250M redevelopment of Manhattan Village Shopping Center, along with helping lead the marketing and leasing of nearly $1B in commercial real estate assets. David has extensive experience navigating complex escrows, lease negotiations, and underwriting transactions in both Excel and ARGUS.
