Derek McDonald joined GLM in summer 2023 after operating his own architectural practice. He brings extensive experience in the renovation and adaptation of listed buildings, with a portfolio that includes award-winning projects across Scotland. His work spans residential properties, leisure facilities, tourism infrastructure, and performance venues.
At GLM, he is responsible for mentoring and training Part I and Part II architectural assistants, contributing to the development of emerging design professionals. He also maintains an academic role as a Senior Tutor at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture (ESALA), where he teaches part-time across architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture programmes.
