Bio
Doug Brien is the CEO and Co-Founder of Mynd, a technology-driven real estate platform focused on simplifying single-family rental investing. A former NFL placekicker, Brien played professionally for twelve seasons, winning a Super Bowl with the San Francisco 49ers and earning induction into the Cal Hall of Fame in 2023. While in the NFL, he pursued an MBA at Tulane University and began investing in real estate, sparking a passion that would define his post-athletic career.
In 2009, Brien co-founded Waypoint Homes, one of the first institutional-scale operators in the single-family rental (SFR) sector. Under his leadership, Waypoint grew to a $3 billion portfolio of over 17,000 homes and went public in 2014 under the ticker SWAY following a merger with Starwood Waypoint. Building on this success, Brien launched Mynd in 2016 with Colin Wiel to democratize real estate investing through technology. Mynd’s platform enables investors to buy, manage, and sell rental properties remotely, serving both individual and institutional clients.
Brien has been recognized as Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and named among Goldman Sachs’ Top 100 Most Innovative Entrepreneurs. He holds a B.A. in Political Economies from the University of California, Berkeley, and an MBA from Tulane University. Today, Brien continues to lead Mynd’s mission to make real estate investing accessible and efficient for all
