In real estate since 1987 when John started as an appraiser working five years toward the MAI designation before being recruited to work in land acquisitions for two Fortune 500 companies. Later spent several years developing his own communities including a 900-acre project in western North Carolina that is still going strong. After three years running a 34,000-acre operation in Guyana, South America in which he oversaw the construction of a 41-mile road through raw jungle, he returned to his brokerage business in North Carolina. Joined Keller Williams in 2016 with his primary firm, Retreat Realty, Ltd. specializing in farms, large land tracts, homesteads, off-grid, and prepper properties in the mountain counties surrounding Asheville. John is the only agent in western North Carolina with this specialty niche and is one of only four corporate sponsors of Preppernet.com which has 10,000 members. He has been within the top 1% of KW agents in the Asheville market in terms of closed volume for 2018 and 2019 and named a Top 100 broker out of more than 2,200 area agents. He is a regular contributor to magazine articles and a blogger about sustainable living, homesteading and disaster preparedness and has been recruited by more than one television production company for a reality show (he declined all of them).
