John Rooks has practiced law since 1973. He started his career as an estate, trust, and tax lawyer with The Northern Trust Company in Chicago, nationally known for its wealth management services. John joined the law firm in 1976 and since that time has served the needs of his clients with skill and compassion in diverse matters. These include estate planning; probate and trust administration and taxation; forming corporations and other business entities; counseling business owners and individuals; and handling real estate transactions, zoning, and development. John attended New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from DePauw University, Greencastle, Indiana in 1970 and his J.D. Degree from Washington University School of Law, St. Louis, Missouri in 1973. John believes that attorneys have an obligation to volunteer their skills to their communities. Mr. Rooks has served on the Boards of the Grundy County Chapter of the American Red Cross, Morris Elementary School District #54, Morris Downtown Development Partnership, Inc., Morris Progress, LLC, and the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce, and has served on the Administrative Counsel and the Board of Trustees of First United Methodist Church, Morris, Illinois. In addition, John is a member of the American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association and is a member and past President of the Grundy County Bar Association. John has successfully developed, operated, and sold rental properties, residential and commercial subdivisions, and commercial speculative buildings in Morris, Illinois. John’s father was a lawyer and John and his wife, Mary, reside in Morris, Illinois and have two grown sons, both pursuing careers in the law.
