John Winkenwerder is a third-generation Asheville hotelier and a leading figure in Asheville Hotel Group. He grew up working in his family’s restaurant and motel businesses on Tunnel Road, gaining early hands-on experience in hotel operations. In the late 1980s, he partnered with local investors to develop his first Hampton Inn near what is now Asheville Outlets, later expanding the portfolio to include additional Hampton Inns and a Homewood Suites. He is a co-owner and managing partner of South Asheville Hotel Associate.
