He was born and raised in Leon, Iowa, and recently returned after living for four years in Osceola. He worked at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon for 37 years in the Emergency Medical Services (EMS), serving as Ambulance Director for 26 years. He has served on the Decatur County Emergency Management Commission, Decatur County E-911 Board, Decatur County EMS Council, Leon Park & Pool Board, and Leon Golf & Country Club Board.
