The ‘no-name’ tornado of 1993 upended our family motel business that my parents had managed since July 1981. The damage necessitated a revamping of my life’s journey as I was the eldest child of the family. I had to withdraw from my last semester at Georgetown Law school and get at the helm of the business. Overnight, I became an entrepreneur.
Hands-on in the business, I learnt very quickly that all my dedication and hard work is fruitless without ‘people,’ people that choose to come and stay at our motel, people who stand beside me to face the day-to-day operation and challenges of the business, and people that can trust me enough to invest with me in the business. Further refinement formed my business philosophy-- take care of our guests, our team, the investors, and the hotel. And most importantly, be a great partner of the community that has been an enabler of your existence and growth.
This competitive advantage has served as the basis of the current Hotel Development and Management Group A/K/A HDG Hotels, granting me the title of Founder and Principal.
Today HDG Hotels has grown to allow different models to function simultaneously. One of these models is HDG Legacy which I lead. The driving force for HDG Legacy continues to be the same principles that propelled the growth from one hotel asset to over two dozen hotel assets.
HDG Legacy seeks hotel developments in markets where the hotels serve as catalyst for uplifting the community. Usually, they are smaller communities, and it opens employment opportunities for the residents. It has shown the coming of a new hotel in the smaller communities changes the economic trajectory of the municipality. HDG Legacy fully embraces “technology best practices,” and “green best practices.” Currently, HDG Legacy has several newly built hotel projects in the pipeline where technology has been thoughtfully specified to futurize the hotel. Team HDG Legacy provides hotel related services from full turnkey management to turnkey hotel development.
My education background is an undergraduate degree, with high honors, in accounting from the University of Florida, and a Law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C. I am a current member of The Florida Bar.
I am the past chair of the IHG Owners Association and past chair of the Marion County Visitors and Convention Bureau. Currently, I am the treasure of the Ocala Metro Chamber and Economic Partnership.
I reside in Ocala, Florida with my wife, Shaida, and two sons, Azim, and Noah.
