Bio
Founder and chairman of AFCO Realty, LLC since 1971, Sam Friedman specializes in the office market with an emphasis on tenant representation. Unquestionably one of the top players in the industry, Friedman has a long, successful track record. Under his leadership, the value of client-represented transactions is in the billions.
Friedman's industry awards are many including the Phoenix Award for ten consecutive years in the Million Dollar Club and as one of the city's top five office producers, both presented by The Atlanta Commercial Board of REALTORS.
In 1993, the Atlanta Commercial Board of REALTORS recognized Friedman for the most significant real estate transaction of the year. The award cited Friedman, along with AFCO Vice Chairman Jerry Mendel, for their roles in co-brokering the purchase of a city block of land of seven acres and a 90,000 square-foot building for Grady Memorial Hospital's North Campus.
In both his professional and personal life, Sam Friedman has led a life of giving back, serving simply because he believes in the cause. He currently serves on the board of Beltline Partnership, Inc., a vision for the next quarter century of increased greenspace, enhanced mobility, economic development and a vibrant, live-work-play Atlanta. As founding chairman of The Path Foundation, Friedman serves actively as chairman emeritus for the organization, which is dedicated to developing a metrowide trail system for Atlanta. He's also a long-term member of the Atlanta Kiwanis Club.
He has served as chairman of the Board for The Atlanta Union Mission and was appointed by two former mayors to chair the Atlanta Housing Authority. Friedman has also been chairman of The Buckhead Coalition and is currently a member of its executive committee. He chaired the local chapter of the National Association of Corporate Real Estate Executives and served as director and treasurer of the Atlanta Commercial Board of REALTORS.
Friedman holds the professional designation of Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) from the Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute and is a Certified Property Manager (CPM). He attended Phillips Academy in Andover, MA before earning a bachelors degree from Brown University. Friedman earned his MBA at Georgia State University and was an adjunct professor for three years, Real Estate and Urban Affairs, at Georgia State.
In his free time, Friedman enjoys hiking, jogging, flying his own airplane, and family time with eight grandchildren. Sam and Susan Friedman live in Atlanta
