The history of Ediciones Akal began in 1972, and from the first moments it became clear his commitment to the quality and rigour of the books published, looking for texts that, apart from passing fads, constituted a solid and coherent long-range fund, even though some of the authors did not enjoy at that time the of the cultural establishment. In its forty years of existence it has formed a catalogue of more than three thousand titles organized in about forty collections covering all fields of humanities, from art to politics, through history, anthropology, philosophy, film and music. Added to this is the editing of classical texts (from classical Greece to the 19th century) and collections of contemporary literature, as well as a complete collection of dictionaries created with the aim of becoming an inescapable reference in their respective fields. Recently, two collections of astronomy and scientific dissemination have been added to its catalog.
