William F. Clausing founded International Typewriter Exchange in 1915. During the first 45 years of operation, the company sold pre-owned and reconditioned typewriters to the largest catalog houses in the country, including Sears Roebuck, Montgomery Ward’s, Spiegel’s, and Alden’s. In order to expand its customer base, the company began selling reconditioned office equipment to other office machine dealers on a national basis. In 1941, International Typewriter Exchange began joining various trade related associations, including the National Office Machines Dealers Association (NOMDA), now known as Business Technology Association (BTA).
With its humble beginning in the typewriter industry, ITE continues to support its customers with their Gold-Medal refurbishing program for Lexmark/IBM pre-owned Wheelwriter typewriters, while continually expanding into new areas.
