The Bedford Estates’ land holdings in Bloomsbury have been owned by the Russell Family since 1669. From being agricultural fields at that time, successive Dukes of Bedford have played their part in creating the Bloomsbury everyone sees today. Much of the area was developed in the late 18th and early 19th centuries; the splendid and elegant Georgian buildings and garden squares which are so characteristic of Bloomsbury, are the enduring legacy of my ancestors.
