Back in 1954, their first thrift shop called an old movie theater in San Francisco’s Mission District home. From day one, they gave shoppers what they were looking for: stylish finds at unbelievable savings.
Since then, they've opened stores across the U.S., Canada, and Australia and have consistently partnered with local nonprofit organizations. They accept donations of clothing and household items on their behalf, paying them for that stuff, and helping fund programs in their communities.
They’ve chosen to keep their business model this way—to buy their supply from local nonprofits. But they didn’t stop there. They’ve also created a leading recycling and reuse program, where they keep, on average, 700 million pounds of reusable items out of area landfills every year.
