The former Adams Tobacco Mill Buildings (the Historic Imperial Tobacco Company) present a rare redevelopment opportunity in the heart of Oxford’s Historic District. Occupying a full square block, the multi-building complex, bounded by West, Broad, Standard, and Cherry Streets, is a contributing structure in the Oxford National Register Historic District. It is a collection of contiguous one and two-story buildings (1911-1939), and a 3-1/2 story Tobacco Prizery Building (1888-1892), recognized as the oldest commercial structure in Granville County, and one of the few nineteenth century survivors of Oxford's once thriving tobacco processing industry.
A conceptual mixed-use development plan has been developed for the site, envisioning approximately 100 residential units, sun-lit concourses, green spaces, an event hall, retail spaces and amenities. All buildings within the campus are eligible for federal and state historic tax credits, positioning the property well for adaptive reuse within one of Oxford’s most prominent historic assemblages.
