Learning for Action supports individuals and organizations working on systemic, structural, and policy changes that address the underlying root causes of inequities so that all members of our communities have access to the opportunities they deserve for productive, healthy, and meaningful lives.

The Native American Health Center is a non profit organization serving the California Bay Area Native Population and other under-served populations in the Bay Area. 2012 marked NAHC's 40th anniversary; as an organization, we have been serving our community since 1972. NAHC has worked at local, state, and federal levels to deliver resources and services for the urban Native community, including medical, dental, behavioral health, diabetes, obesity, substance abuse prevention, HIV/HCV care coordination and prevention.

Born out of a movement in the 1960s, nonprofit community health centers have long been the source of primary care, behavioral health and dental care for the low-income communities they serve. With majority consumer-led boards, health centers have gradually augmented their culturally and linguistically appropriate services to meet the needs of underserved neighborhoods by adding other assistance programs, such as job training; housing, clothing and food assistance; transportation; and other wellness-oriented programs. In time, health centers have become economic anchors in the communities they serve - creating jobs and infusing a sense of empowerment into neighborhoods oftentimes overlooked by other sources of economic development.
