Originally built in the 1880s to house the Grand Rapids Refrigerator Company, 37 Ottawa has been the host to a number of different functions in its more than 135 years of existence. Its latest “remodeling” was in the mid-1980s when it was completely encapsulated in an aluminum skin together with its neighboring building to the West, 50 Monroe, hiding (and destroying) much of the original architectural details. CWD acquired the building in 2012 and began the initial planning of what it is today - modern loft offices at 37 Ottawa and the AC Hotel by Marriott at 50 Monroe. The 37 Ottawa and 50 Monroe projects stand today as CWD’s most ambitious restoration project to-date. The result is a renewed and refined energy that has been returned after decades. 37 Ottawa’s interior features the best of the old - exposed brick and wooden beams, high ceiling, and picturesque windows - all with the comfort and convenience offered by the mechanical and technology of a newer construction.
