Laid out in 1842, the square features a bronze monument to King Edward VII. An iconic shopping artery, the very first downtown shops were laid out around this square. An avant-garde skyscraper of a second generation, this building was the first office tower to be built completely of reinforced concrete and first skyscraper in Montreal to have an underground parking garage.
