This is one of the oldest buildings in Portage County which the auditors website says it was built in 1812, but the historical plaque says 1832. The building is in need of renovation, the prior owners have done a lot of work to get the building secured and made repairs to keep it upright. The bottom level has three entry ways which include the far right side entering into a large room with a fireplace, the middle entry is to the foyer with steps leading to the 2nd floor, and the right door was the old salon that had a tremendous amount of traffic back in the day. There was also the old kitchen towards the back of the first floor. The 2nd floor there are 4-5 rooms that people could rent for the night, bathroom, and another said to be kitchen. As you make your way up to the third floor there is a large gathering/meeting room that was added onto back around 1888. There was a separate entrance from outside to the third floor. There is so much history with this building and only if the walls could talk, the stories that you would hear. It was mentioned that on the second floor there was a hidden door in the closet that was part of the underground railroad. This building is a full rehab project, but the possibilities are endless.
